Speculation that Qatar Airways Cargo was not going to replace chief cargo officer Guillaume Halleux ...
The Hungarian government, stung by criticism that it was unable to procure air freight capacity during the PPE peak, has bought an A330-200F from Qatar Airways.
Qatar has been looking to relinquish its A330 freighter fleet, and was due to return or sell the five aircraft – but decided in May to hold on to them for a bit longer, given current market conditions. It was planning to replace them with five 777 freighters, and will still take those deliveries.
However, clearly the offer from Hungary was too good to miss out on.
The Hungarian aircraft will be leased to WizzAir when not in use by the government – which looks to be a slightly odd move by the low-cost carrier, which has a fleet of A320s and A321s and does not appear to offer a cargo service.
